It has been an absolute treat getting to know your children over these last two weeks. With such a passionate group of students, it makes every day that I get to work with them feel like an honor and a privilege. Thank you for sharing them with us. In math class, we have started the year with a unit of Geometry. We have been building rectangles and triangles to figure out their area. Then, through the process discovered formulas that help us move more quickly through problems. We also started practicing drawing circles with compasses. I like starting the year with geometry because it is very hands on and concrete. We have something physical to build as we are all getting to know each other, which leads to interesting conversations, and that helps me learn where we should go next in math class. We also are taking time to reflect on our current feelings about math. Each student has a journal where they were encouraged to write about anything on their mind about math, positive or negative.
